A 49-year-old Jersey City man has been charged with sexually assaulting his nine-year-old stepdaughter, authorities said this afternoon.

The crimes occurred in November of 2021 and March of 2022 inside of a Jersey City residence and the name of the defendant is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
He is charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
The prosecutor’s office has filed a detention motion, which is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, March 8th
Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation and arrest. Anyone wishing to report a sex crime should call the HCPO SVU at 201-915-1234.
This is the second Jersey City man charged by the HCPO with sexually assaulting his stepdaughter in the past week.
