Jersey City, Hoboken score big upgrades with seven-figure grants from NJ DOT

Jersey City and Hoboken scored big with $2 million and $1 million grants, respectively, from the New Jersey Department of Transportation – both at least 50 percent more than what they received last year.

Yesterday, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop tweeted that the grant would be helpful for spring paving and “bike plans,” likely alluding to the upcoming citywide Bicycle Master Plan.

Last year, under Gov. Chris Christie (R), Jersey City received $1,038,402 from the state DOT for miscellaneous street improvements.

Meanwhile, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla said on Twitter today that the money “will be invested directly into pedestrian safety initiatives, road repair, and other projects.”

In 2017, the Mile Square City netted $434,663 from the NJ DOT for “pedestrian crossing improvements.”
