Jersey City child killed after being struck by vehicle downtown, official says

A Jersey City child was killed after being struck be a vehicle downtown this afternoon, an official confirmed to HCV this evening.

Today at approximately 3:53 p.m. near the intersection of Jersey City Avenue and 6th Street, Jersey City police responded to a call for a pedestrian struck, according to city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.

Upon arrival, responding officers found a juvenile with serious bodily injuries who had been struck by a vehicle.

The child was pronounced dead at approximately 4:03 p.m., Wallace-Scalcione said.

She subsequently confirmed that the child was six years old.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and continues to be fully cooperative.

A crash investigator was subsequently notified and responded to the location. The investigation is ongoing and no charges were issued at this time.
