Deemed the 2020 Hero Awards, the recipients ranged from large companies like Xchange at Secaucus Junction LLC and MedShare to local retailers and restaurants such as Walmart and Giovanni’s Italian Deli – who provided everything from PPE to dinner for hospital staff and Secaucus residents.
“I am so proud of and grateful to the community of Secaucus for stepping up to help each other during this unprecedented time of need,” Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli said on Tuesday.
“On behalf of Hudson Regional Hospital’s first responders, doctors and nurses, we appreciate how our community came together to make it possible for us to continue doing providing quality healthcare to our patients,” added HRH President and CEO Dr. Nizar Kifaieh.
“Your contributions were instrumental in uplifting our staff’s morale.”
As the designated COVID-19 testing site for Hudson County, Hudson Regional Hospital worked with county and Secaucus officials to screen more than 15,000 residents, first responders and emergency workers at its on-site drive-through screening program.
Additionally, the hospital treated 300 individuals with COVID-19, and created a COVID-19 treatment area that was completely separate from the facility’s normal business operations to address the healthcare needs of its surrounding community safely while fighting the pandemic.
The number of new COVID-19 cases in Hudson County and Hudson Regional Hospital continues to decrease thanks in part to the overwhelming support from the Secaucus and Hudson County businesses and individuals that have allowed doctors and nurses to concentrate on their patients.
Hudson County residents experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should call 201-388-1097 or 646-862-1161 to be pre-screened for the by appointment drive-through testing site.
