Dawson Palmarini survived a life-altering crash in 2019 that left him in a coma for a month, sustained a traumatic brain injury, and other severe bodily injuries.

His recovery has been a long journey of rehabilitation, and through it all, he has made it his mission to personally thank the police, fire, and EMS workers who saved his life.

“Officer Dawson will always be a part of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office family. His story of resilience and gratitude is truly inspiring, and it reminds us of the impact first responders have on the lives of those we serve,” Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari said in a statement.

“Dawson’s determination to thank every officer, firefighter, and paramedic speaks volumes about his character, and we are proud to have played a role in his journey.”

Vinny Palmarini, Dawson’s father, credits the quick and heroic efforts of first responders for his son’s survival, acknowledging that without them, his son would not be here today.

Since then, Dawson has been determined to express his heartfelt gratitude to the men and women in these critical fields.

During his visit to the Sheriff’s Office, Dawson participated in a full day of “training” with various units, including Patrol, Communications, K9, Motors, SWAT, Crime Scene Investigation (BCI), and the Detective Unit.

To commemorate his visit, Schillari presented Dawson with an Official Honorary Sheriff’s Officer recognition, along with official patches, challenge coins, and a departmental hat.

He also extended his thanks to the officers, detectives, and supervisors who participated in this special project, organized by the Sheriff’s Community Relations Unit, Det. Kelly Flores.

Dawson, I know I speak for everyone when I say that we’re thankful that you have not only survived such a devastating event in your life but, are making a significant recovery from your injuries. It’s rare to see someone who has suffered and experienced this kind of life altering event reach out to those who were only doing what they have sworn to do and demonstrate their true gratitude and love for their efforts. You are a young man of strong character and integrity. Coming from a family of first responders, I know that you will always hold a special place in their hearts and minds. God Bless you and assist you in a speedy and successful recovery 🙏.
