The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating a fatal Jersey City fire that occurred on 121 Garfield Ave. yesterday morning.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Jersey City Fire Department received a report of a fire at 121 Garfield Ave., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found fire coming from a third floor bedroom of a three-story residential building. During suppression activities, firefighters located an injured man, later identified as Pablo Renta, 56, of Jersey City.
He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.
This matter is under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City FD. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
