The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force are investigating a double fatal Kearny fire that occurred just after midnight, Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Shortly after 12 a.m. on Friday, the Kearny Fire Department was notified of a fire at 56 Hamilton Ave., Suarez said in a statement.
Emergency responders located heavy fire coming from a single residence. During suppression activities, two victims were located within the structure with serious injuries.
Martin Wilson, 61, was transported to University Hospital and pronounced dead at approximately 1:20 a.m. Mary Beth Guenther, 58, was transported to Clara Maas Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 12 p.m.
The preliminary investigation determined the fire originated in the basement of the structure. The cause has not been determined, however, foul play is not suspected at this time.
This matter is being investigated by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force with assistance by the Kearny Fire Department and the Kearny Police Department.
