The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred this afternoon.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting of a 30-year-old male on Clerk and Forrest Street in Jersey City. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted minutes ago.
Since Tuesday, there have been at least two shootings in Jersey City: one that killed a 17-year-old and another that injured a 12-year-old.
At 4:13 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released further information.
This afternoon just after 12:40 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department
responded to the area of Clerk and Forrest Streets on a report of a man shot inside of a car, Suarez said in a statement.
Responding officers found the victim, a 30-year-old Jersey City man, later identified as Yusef Mathis, with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene of the shooting at 12:52 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
