UPDATED: Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and Jersey City police investigating fatal stabbing

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating a fatal stabbing from yesterday.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are responding to the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Bostwick Avenue to investigate a stabbing in which one man has died. More to follow,” the HCPO tweeted Sunday afternoon.

At 10:25 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.

At approximately 1:53 p.m. on Sunday, the Jersey City Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fight on Bostwick Avenue.

Responding officers found a man – later identified as Jawon Purcell, 28, of Jersey City – with multiple apparent stab wounds in the area of 112 Bostwick Ave.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:03 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
