Hudson County jury finds Kearny man, 25, guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 years old

A Hudson County jury found a Kearny man, 25, guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 years old after about four hours of deliberations yesterday.

Christian Silva, 25, of Kearny, was convicted on counts of aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault by contact with a child under the age of 13.

The jury found Silva guilty of sexually assaulting the minor female victim in a Union City residence.

At sentencing, Silva faces 25 years to life in state prison on the conviction subject to 25 years of parole ineligibility. The convictions will also subject the defendant to registration under Megan’s Law and Parole Supervision for Life.

Hudson County Superior Court Judge Vincent J. Militello presided over the trial and is scheduled to sentence the defendant on February 11th, 2022.

The state was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Barbara Drasheff from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit investigated this case with the assistance of the Union City Police Department.
