“Sheriff Schillari has been a steady leader in Hudson County, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to public safety and community engagement,” O’Dea said in a statement.
“His approach to law enforcement and dedication to serving all residents with respect and dignity make him my choice for sheriff.”
Under Schillari’s leadership, the sheriff’s office has implemented 24/7 patrols for county parks and roads, established a Traffic and Crash Investigation Unit in partnership with Vision Zero and the State of New Jersey, and expanded specialized units including SWAT, Motors, and the K-9 Unit to enhance emergency response.
“Frank’s record speaks for itself. From introducing body cameras for all officers to joining the Attorney General’s ARRIVE Together program supporting individuals in mental health crises, he has consistently prioritized accountability, and progressive policing,” O’Dea continued.
“I look forward to collaborating with leaders like Sheriff Schillari who share my vision for a safer, more inclusive community and urge all residents to support his re-election on June 10.”
He has also focused on protecting all communities by establishing a special unit to safeguard houses of worship and creating the Blue Envelope Program to assist individuals with special needs during traffic stops, as well as securing millions in grant funding.
“I’m honored to have the support of Bill O’Dea, a true public servant who has spent his career fighting for the people of Jersey City and Hudson County,” Schillari said in a statement.
“Together, we share a commitment to smart, community-focused law enforcement that keeps all our neighborhoods safe while building trust with residents. I look forward to continuing that mission and working alongside leaders like Bill who put people first.”
Schillari is running on Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop’s “Democrats for Change” gubernatorial slate and is looking to stave off a challenge from Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, who has the backing of the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO).
Early voting is now underway through Sunday and polling locations can be found here.
