Hoboken Council President Jen Giattino, who was elected to her fourth term to the council representing the 6th Ward last year, passed away suddenly at 53 years old this evening leaving the community at large in utter disbelief.

“I am heartbroken to share that my beloved wife, Jen—the love of my life and mother of our three children—passed away suddenly. She was not only an incredible mother but also a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about this community,” her husband Joe Giattino said in a statement.
“Jen’s unwavering commitment, kindness, and passion touched so many lives here in Hoboken. We are devastated by her loss, and I ask for privacy for our family as we try to navigate this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding and for keeping Jen in your thoughts and prayers.”
Giattino was first elected in 2011 on then-Mayor Dawn Zimmer’s ticket and won re-election convincingly in 2015, 2019, and 2023, most recently securing two thirds of the vote despite running against two opponents, with one backed by Mayor Ravi Bhalla.
She had a stellar record of being responsive to constituents and was known to genuinely enjoy hitting doors during campaign season, a combination that made her a tough opponent to overcome.
The only blemish on her electoral record was an unsuccessful bid for mayor in 2017.
“It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the sudden and incredibly tragic passing of Council President Jen Giattino. Jen’s dedication to our community will never be forgotten. Her kindness, humility, and quiet determination made her a cherished figure whose impact will be felt for generations to come,” Bhalla added.
“There are no words to describe the sense of loss we are all feeling. Jen was a leader in our community and a fighter for all of us. Hoboken has lost a bright light, and she will be deeply missed. I hope our community can come together in her memory, embrace the Giattino family with prayer and support, and respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
Hudson County Executive Craig Guy also offered his condolences, touting Giattino’s contributions to the Mile Square City.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Jen Giattino. Jen was a true public servant. She dedicated her life to helping the residents of Hoboken and was a leader in her community. She was also a devoted wife and mother. All of Hudson County sends
sincere condolences to Jen’s family.”

Absolutely shocked and really sad. My heart goes out to Jen’s family and friends. Stunned.
This is so sad. She was loved by many, many people in Hoboken. Everyone who knew her, even just a little, is stunned by this news. She was always quick to volunteer to help people and she had a wonderful personality. I didn’t know her well but had a good numbers of talks with her seeing her around town.
Jen was of the people. A wonderful community servant and mother and wife. We will miss you Jen. Sending support and love to Joe and family. Our loss is great.
Totally shocked and saddened by Jen’s passing. We had known her for over 20 years! A true gem of a person. My deepest condolences to her family. This is a big and unexpected loss for Hoboken.
