At approximately 4:41 p.m. on Tuesday, a Jersey City police officer reported striking a pedestrian who was jogging in the area of Jersey Avenue and Aetna Street while responding to a call, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

The victim, a 44-year-old Jersey City man, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for a serious, but not life threatening injury, to his lower body.

A preliminary investigation completed yesterday by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit determined the patrol car, a Ford Crown Victoria, was traveling south on Jersey Avenue with lights and sirens activated when the victim was struck.

The vehicle was occupied by the driver and one additional Jersey City police officer and the HCPO did not identify either officer since the investigation is ongoing.
