The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department, are investigating a shooting that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man early this morning, Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello announced.

Shortly after 5 a.m. today, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Union Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Mello said in a statement.
Responding officers located a man – later identified as Jamaal George, 27, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to tne Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 a.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. No arrests have been made at this time.
