HCPO investigating fatal Jersey City shooting of 22-year-old woman as possible murder

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal Jersey City shooting of a 22-year-old woman as a possible murder, Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

On Monday, August 31st, just before 6 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department
responded to an apartment on Forrest Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Ocean Avenue where they found a lifeless 22-year-old woman, Suarez said in a statement.

The victim, later identified as Francis Villa, had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was
pronounced dead at the scene at 6:04 p.m. by Dr. Lee of the Jersey City Medical Center.

The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the upper body and the manner of death remains pending with the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.

The HCPO had tweeted that a fatality was being investigated on Monday evening, but did not provide any further details until this afternoon.
