UPDATED: HCPO Homicide Unit, North Bergen police, investigating dead body found near elementary school

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the North Bergen Police Department are investigating a dead body found near the McKinley Elementary School this morning.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a male found deceased at 3300 Liberty Avenue in North Bergen. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted at 9:44 a.m.

The McKinley school is located at 3110 Liberty Ave. and the incident occurred in a parking lot behind it. The HCPO made the announcement about a half hour after HudPost wrote a brief Instagram post about the situation.

The North Bergen Police Department deferred comment to the HCPO this morning, who said no additional details were immediately available.

At 5:07 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released more information.

Just prior to 7 a.m., the North Bergen Police Department responded to a call of deceased man.

Responding officers found the lifeless victim, later identified as Marquis McCleod, 24, of Jersey City, who was pronounced deceased at the scene at 7:24 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the North Bergen Police Department are actively investigating this case and no arrests have been made at this time.
