“The diversity that permeates Hudson County is the lifeblood of our community and I am proud to support our Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs as they work year-round to recognize and celebrate Hudson County’s communal spirit. Ramadan is a time of sacrifice and a time to refrain from indulging in the things we enjoy,” Guy said in a statement.
“And yet, there is so much to gain during this time as families spend time together praying, meditating, fasting and breaking fast. Ramadan is a sacred time for Muslims, and I am honored to join together to light this lantern as a symbol that reminds us all that there is a light at the end of the dark tunnel, and that this time of fasting and abstaining lightens our minds and lights up our hearts. Ramadan Mubarak.”
Diversity & Inclusion Director of the FBI Newark Citizens Academy Alumni Association Hassan Abu Bakr attended the event at the county administration building, while a fanous lighting ceremony and iftar was performed by Dr. Ara Karakashian.
He is a part the Hudson County Community College Culinary Team, serving as the dean of Business, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality Management.
The fanous lighting ceremony and iftar began with Romano delivering a welcome message, followed by remarks from Guy and Mukherji before Bakr led those in attendance in prayer.
