A GoFundMe page has been reopened for the family of Carolina Cano, a woman who was raped and murdered in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park last year, to cover their travel expenses from Peru as they watch the case against her killer play out in Hudson County Superior Court.

“… The economics of traveling here from Peru are very difficult – for any family, traveling 3,000 [miles] for the trial would be emotionally and financially intense,” Megan Carolan, the page organizer, wrote in the GoFundMe description yesterday.
She also notes that the average salary in Peru is only about $500 a month, which is less that what one plane ticket to New Jersey costs.
“I am reopening the fundraiser in the hopes that we can once again rally as a community to support this family whose loved one was stolen from them – and, from so many who benefited from her heart in Jersey City. Raising $500 would let the family exhale a bit; raising $1,500 would allow them to complete this visit without taking on debt.”
As of 6:46 p.m. this evening, the page reports raising $6,500 towards their $7,500 goal.
On Friday, a Hudson County Superior Court Judge Patrick Arre revealed that Jorge Rios, a Jersey City native and Honduran national, admitted to raping and killing Cano just one week after she was murdered on March 24th, 2019.
Arre also said at the hearing, which Cano’s family was able to attend – according to Carolan – that Rios’ trial is currently scheduled for a back in March yet to be determined.
Do you know how many American citizens (WOMEN) are murdered by immigrants and no one bothers to donate any grief or relief fund?!! This is definitely a slap in the face!!!
You should contact the Airlines ,I’m sure if you make it public,They should sponsor the trip ,due to the severity of the matter at hand,as well as the Hotel should also sponsor their stay,and Hudson County has a fund for victims family’s, and they should truly cover the whole trip,1st valley Hudson counys prosecutors office,There is definatly a fund for family’s, My dad was murdered in J. In 1995 so I know about this funds,Good Luck
