The app provides information on local schedules, stations, and stops for all bus, PATH, rail, ferry, subway, and Via Jersey City rides with routes prioritized by local users’ preferences, including arrival times, shortest walking distance, cost, trip time, and more.
“Jersey City is one of the busiest transportation hubs in the nation, and our work over the past decade has built a robust transportation infrastructure that is successfully expanding access to opportunities for our residents and making our streets safer,” Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.
“The launch of Citymapper strengthens our commitment to providing our community with innovative tools to access countless opportunities in the best and most affordable way they choose.”
The Citymapper app, which is available in over 400 cities and owned by Via, which has been in Jersey City since 2020, boasts the abilities to have customizable trips, safer biking, and avoiding disruptions.
For example, users can visualize all journey options and choose based on what is most important to them – such as speed, fewer transfers, less walking, or cost.
They can also see the live location of their bus in real time, be alert for street closures, traffic, and service delays, as well as cyclists being able to have audio directions and choose quieter streets for their trip.
“Jersey City continues to be a leader in investing in the systems and technology to make public transit the preferred option for visitors and residents. We are thrilled to expand our long-term partnership by introducing Citymapper,” added Mike Vaccarino, Head of North American Partnerships for Via.
