“I am saddened to learn of the passing of Mayor Patrick Pasculli. On behalf of the City of Hoboken, I extend my sincere condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who had the opportunity to know and work with him. Mayor Pasculli dedicated many years of service to Hoboken and stepped forward to lead our City during a time of significant change,” Mayor Emily Jabbour said in a statement.

“As Hoboken was transitioning from its industrial past and beginning to see new redevelopment and investment, he worked to help guide the community forward while continuing to serve its residents. He took pride in celebrating Hoboken’s unique history and ensured that our city received the rightful recognition as the birthplace of the first organized game of baseball …”

Pasculli was Hoboken council president when then-Mayor Thomas Vezzetti in 1988, and following his passing, his council colleagues elected him acting mayor. He then vacated his seat to run for mayor the following year, when he was elected to a full, four-year term.

His successful 1989 campaign led to the formation of Coalition for a Better Waterfront, who fought ceding waterfront property to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

“During his time in office, he helped guide Hoboken as it transitioned from its industrial past toward a new era of redevelopment and worked to shape the future of our waterfront so it could be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike,” Assemblyman Ravi Bhalla, the Hoboken mayor between 2018 and 2025, wrote on X.

“His commitment to our community and to preserving Hoboken’s unique character will always be remembered. My thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.”

No funeral information for Pasculli was immediately available.
