Guttenberg Deputy Public Safety Director Joel Magenheimer confirmed this morning that D’annunzio was the deceased officer in question, adding that the incident took place at his Cliffside Park home, therefore borough police handled the situation.

“Me and him grew up on the job … he was just a good friend of mine that will surely be missed,” Magenheimer said in remembrance of his former colleague on the force.

Magenheimer and Guttenberg Mayor Gerald Drasheff exclusively told Hudson County View yesterday that a former police sergeant in town was found dead in his car on Sunday evening after shooting himself in the head.

The Cliffside Park Police Department deferred comment to a borough spokesman early this morning, who could not immediately be reached at his office. This story will be updated in the event further comment is given.
