Former Guttenberg Police Director Nicholas Lordo died at 78 years old “surrounded by those he loved” at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck on Thursday, according to his obituary.

” … He will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his community, and the profession he served with honor, integrity, and pride. Nicholas dedicated his life to law enforcement, serving with distinction as the Police Director for the Town of Guttenberg, New Jersey,” Lordo’s obituary says.
“In this role, he was known for his strong leadership, fairness, and steadfast dedication to public safety. He also served with the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues through his professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to service.”
The obituary also describes Lordo as a family man, who was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, though he also worked for the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office in addition to his time with the Guttenberg Police Department.
“His greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness,” his obituary reads.
“He was a constant source of strength, guidance, and support, and he instilled values of integrity, responsibility, and compassion in all who knew him … His legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the community he faithfully served, and the family he cherished above all else.”
Visitation for family and friends began today at 3:00 p.m. and will run through 7:00 p.m. at the Barquin Funeral Home, located at 7101 Broadway in Guttenberg.
Tomorrow, morning visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 9 a.m. at the funeral home, with a 9:30 a.m. funeral mass St. Joseph’s of the Palisades Roman Catholic Church in West New York, located at 6401 Palisade Ave.
An entombment will follow at Flower Hill Mausoleum in North Bergen, located at 5433 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lordo’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
