In the midst of a Hudson County Superior Court lawsuit, West New York Police Director Robert Antolos saw one resident, and subsequently several elected officials, voice their support for him at Wednesday’s board of commissioners meeting.
The lawsuit alleges that Antolos discriminated against and harassed Michael Acosta, an openly gay West New York detective who is the son of former Deputy Mayor/Board of Education trustee Silvio Acosta.
Through the suit, Michael also claims he was denied overtime opportunities and had frivolous Internal Affairs investigations filed against him due to his sexual orientation.
Long time West New York resident Wayne Cook, who grew up with Antolos, took exception to the litigation and spoke out in favor of the police director.
Mayor Felix Roque, and Commissioners Count Wiley and Caridad Rodriguez all went to bat for Antolos as well.Â
