Due to outages, Union City officials urge residents to call main City Hall line, police

Most of the phone numbers at Union City City Hall are not working, so officials are urging residents to call the main number or the non-emergency police line for inquiries.

“Please be advised that telephone service to City Hall is currently being worked on. No emergency numbers to the Union City Police Department are impacted,” a message posted on the city’s official website at 1 p.m. says.

“The main number, 201-348-5700, is operational, as well as the Police Department non-emergency line at 201-865-1111.”

The direct lines to the building department, city clerk, health department, etc., are not working, but can still be reached through the main number.

A spokeswoman for PSE&G initially said that downed power lines on New York Avenue were the likely cause of the problem, but shortly thereafter indicated it was a problem with Verizon.

A spokesman for Verizon could not be immediately reached for comment.
