“Jersey City has transformed over our term to be one of the best renaissance stories in the country, and we strive to deliver the best product in everything we do with July 4th being another example,” Mayor Steven Fulop said in a statement.

“Jersey City residents deserve the best, and we have taken the opportunity to deliver a free day of fun for families that may not have the means to pay for these types of events.”

This is the first large-scale 4th of July concert the city will host in the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funk Flex and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who also goes by the stage name Diesel, will also DJ their own sets before Flo Rida performs.

Other household names the city has recruited in recent years include the Village People, hometown heroes Kool and the Gang and Akon, as well as Snoop Dogg and Pitbull. City officials have said the event has drawn a crowd of about 150,000 people in the past.

“We are excited to host this annual event on our waterfront to celebrate such an important day in our nation’s history by bringing the community together for fun, food, and entertainment,” Exchange Place Alliance Executive Alliance Elizabeth Cain said in a statement.

“Thank you to DEG Presents for helping us bring such talented artists to the stage for a memorable concert that will keep people on their feet dancing all night long.”

Following the performances, Fireworks by Grucci will be launching two barges in the middle of the Hudson River.
