Fanny Cedeno has accepted her nomination to succeed Tilo Rivas, now the Hudson County surrogate, as the county freeholder for District 6 – Union City.

Cedeno has served as an aide for state Senator (D-33)/Union City Mayor Brian Stack in both his capacities for about five years, as well as working for her predecessor, Rivas, in the freeholder office.
The District 6 Democratic County Committee, which is comprised solely of Union City residents, unanimously approved (67-0) her nomination this evening.
HCDO Chair Amy DeGise told HCV that she was excited to see another young woman join the nine-member freeholder board.
“I’m very excited to see a proud, young Democratic woman join the freeholder ranks for Hudson County. She has worked tirelessly from a very young age to support her Union City community and now will share her wealth of knowledge with the rest of the county,” she said.
The New Jersey Globe first reported that Cedeno would be Rivas’ replacement as freeholder last week, noting that Marco Navarro has already said he will challenger her.
Rivas is also a former Union City commissioner, who decided not to run for re-election in May 2018 when he was replaced by Wendy Grullon.
He cruised to victory in his first bid for county surrogate, easily defeating Republican John Muniz by scoring about 81.75 percent of the vote, according to the Hudson County Clerk’s Office.
The Board of Chosen Freeholders meeting is tomorrow afternoon, with Freeholder Anthony Vainieri (D-8) expected to maintain his role as chair for the 4th consecutive year.
