“So much for states’ rights. This decision is a direct attack on public transit that will hurt commuters across the region and on both sides of the Hudson. We’ve seen firsthand that congestion pricing works at reducing traffic in Jersey City and Hoboken, making our streets safer and our air cleaner,” Brennan, who is running independently, said in a statement.

“It also cuts commute times for bus riders and drivers, all while funding a subway system that millions of New Jersey residents rely on to get to work and wherever else they need to go.”

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) announcing that US Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration was voiding the approval of congestion pricing, which took effect on January 5th.

Hochul, who had appointed Brennan as her executive director of the New York State Office of Resilient Homes and Communities in 2022, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) have since responded that they will be suing to keep the program alive.

“In the most densely populated region in the country, we should be doing everything we can to invest in mass transit. Instead, this shortsighted decision puts politics ahead of the daily needs of millions of commuters across the region,” Brennan added.

She is currently running in a crowded five-person filed in the June 10th Democratic primary, which also includes Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez (D-32), Jennie Pu, and Crystal Fonseca.

Pu and Fonseca are running with the backing of the Hudson County Democratic Organization, which includes HCDO Chair Craig Guy and state Senator Raj Mukherji (D-32).

    • The median income of people driving into NYC from NJ is $140000. 80% of people who commute into the city do so via public transit.

        • The area median income for Downtown Jersey City is around $110000. These INDIVIDUAL people are richer than even the richest average Jersey City resident. They can afford to pay an extra $9 if they’re already paying $15.

Even if you were going into the city every day, that extra $9 comes out to about $225 extra per month. Yearly, that come out to about 2% of their median salary. They can afford it, and if they can’t, take the train like 80% of the rest of us (the actual working and middle class people).

These aren’t poor people, they’re upper middle class at best, and the vast majority of them aren’t from Hudson County.

          You MAGA chuds are pathetic.

    • How about the 8 million in public money to Politico subscriptions by government agencies? THESE ARE PAYOFFS TO THE MSM FOR CREATING GOOD STORIES ABOUT THE DEMOCRATS.

  1. There are 2 sides to this. While I’m not crazy about this leftist loon woman, it has reduced traffic in Manhattan. Maybe ambulances and fire trucks can respond faster. On the other hand, we are taxed too much and money wasted by the inefficient government. Look at all that thievery being uncovered by DOGE!
