Bayonne YouTuber & rapper indicted for possessing illegal gun as a convicted felon

A Bayonne YouTuber and rapper was indicted yesterday for possessing an illegal gun and an extended magazine despite being prohibited to do so as a convicted felon, Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna announced.

Richard Sharp, 25, of Bayonne, also known as “Famous Richard” on social media, is charged with one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.

He was arrested on Friday and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge André M. Espinosa in Newark federal court and was detained.

On July 4th, 2024, law enforcement responded to reports of an incident at a gas station in Bayonne.

The investigation revealed that during an altercation at the gas station, Sharp had brandished a firearm with an extended magazine and threatened to shoot other people who were at the gas station.

Several days later, Sharp posted a video on social media showing him dancing while holding a firearm equipped with an extended magazine.

Subsequently, on July 12, 2024, following a judicially authorized search of Sharp’s residence and vehicle, law enforcement recovering a loaded Beretta M9 semi-automatic handgun with a defaced serial number and an extended magazine that contained approximately 24 rounds of ammunition.

The count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition is punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross gain or loss from the offense, whichever is greatest.

He had previously been arrested by the Bayonne Police Department for the aforementioned incidents on a slew of weapons charges, as HCV first reported.

Sharp’s Instagram page boasts 440,000 followers, along with 364,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel.

He was also arrested by Port Authority police in December 2023 for an armed robbery, the department wrote on Instagram.

Khanna credited special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Newark Field Division under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Brian J. Driscoll, with the investigation.

He also thanked the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Prosecutor Esther Suarez, and the Bayonne Police Department, under the direction of Police Chief Robert Geisler.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sean Nadel of the Narcotics/OCDETF Unit in Newark.
