On Friday around 8:10 a.m., a 59-year-old Bayonne man reports that he was threatened by a male with a knife. He told authorities that he answered lobby door of his apartment complex to investigate the source of loud banging coming from the area.

There, he observed a male pushing on the front door to gain entry. The victim opened the door and was told the man that he was doing some work in an upstairs apartment. The aggressor then pushed by the victim and entered the building, officials said.

A short while later, as the victim was exiting the building with his wife and grandchild, he was met by the unidentified man from earlier. The male removed a shovel from a van and approached the victim and his family while stating that he was going to kill him, police said.

The victim ordered his wife and grandson back into the building as he approached the aggressor, who went back to his van, retrieved a knife, and began to chase the victim as he phoned the police.

At that point, the attacker then retreated back to the van and fled the scene. No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation, police said.
