Jonathan Belle, 36, of Bayonne, was charged with possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm and certain persons not to possess weapons, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

Belle was taken into custody around 7:12 p.m. yesterday from the area of 25 Avenue C after being identified as the shooter involved in a shots fired incident on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Two days ago, officers responded to the area of West 18th Street between Avenue C and John F. Kennedy Boulevard on a report of shots fired. At that time, no suspects or victims were located and the Bayonne Police Detective Bureau began an investigation.

This led to Belle being identified as the shooter, however no gun was recovered. At this time, the detective bureau does not believe this incident was related to the
shooting that occurred on Monday.

Early Monday morning, a Bayonne man was hospitalized after being shot multiple times near the same area where the shots were fired on Wednesday.
