Bayonne man, registered sex offender, arrested for grabbing woman’s buttocks

A Bayonne man who is a registered sex offender was arrested for grabbing a woman’s buttocks before fleeing on foot yesterday, authorities said.

Tariq Baker, 22, of Bayonne, was charged with hindering apprehension, criminal sexual contact, and failure to notify law enforcement of address change as part of Megan’s Law, according to Sgt. William Dundas.

He was placed under arrest at approximately 3:07 p.m. on Monday in the area of East 50th Street for approaching a woman and grabbing her buttocks before fleeing on foot.

He was apprehended a short time later by officers who were responding to the 911 call placed by the victim. Baker also provided officers with false pedigree information.

During processing, it was discovered that Baker, who is known to wear prescription glasses, failed to notify law enforcement of his change of address per Megan’s Law statutes.
