At 4:57 p.m. on Thursday, the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to 5 Pavonia Court on a reported structure fire. Arriving companies found heavy smoke coming from the attic area of the one-and-a-half story home, Fire Chief Keith Weaver said.

Firefighters used multiple hand lines to extinguish the blaze which progressed to two alarms. The fire was declared under control at 5:27 p.m. Although the home is vacant, three workers who were inside were safely evacuated.

No injuries were reported. A fire investigation is underway, however, the fire appears to be accidental in nature at this time.

“Our firefighters arrived within minutes of the initial 9-1-1 call and quickly knocked down this fire keeping damage to a minimum and preventing further spread to very closely spaced neighboring structures,” Weaver added.

“I want to remind residents to take heed to all the fire safety tips that have been distributed and posted by our Fire Prevention Bureau.”
