The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are seeking a shooter who killed a 34-year-old man late Sunday evening, Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Yesterday shortly after 11:20 p.m., the Jersey City PD was notified of a shooting on Fairview Avenue between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and West Side Avenue, Suarez said in a statement.
Responding officers located a victim – later identified as Dushawn Bell, 34, of Elizabeth – with apparent gunshot wound(s). He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3:40 a.m. this morning.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The HCPO Homicide Unit and the Jersey City PD are actively investigating this matter and arrests have been made at this time.

This marks the seventh homicide of the year in Jersey City, four days after local officials touted declining murder and shooting statistics.
