Authorities are investigating a Jersey City shooting where a 21-year-old was killed and a 22-year-old was injured late last night.
“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and JCPD are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday night just after 11pm on Wilkinson Ave near MLK Drive in Jersey City in which a 21-year-old man was killed and a 22-year-old man injured. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted early this morning.
According to police radio transmissions, the victim who was killed was shot in the chest, while the victim who was injured was shot in the hand.
At 10:23 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez provided more information.
Last night just after 11:00 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department
responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 162 Wilkinson Ave., Suarez said in a statement.
Responding officers found a 21-year-old male victim – later identified as Rodney Wallace – who had sustained gunshot wound(s) to the upper body and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
A second victim, a 22-year-old man, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting and was treated at the Jersey City Medical Center.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
