UPDATED: Authorities investigating fatal shooting on Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting on Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City that occurred earlier this evening, though details are scarce at this time.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred just after 5:30pm in the area of MLK Drive between Woodlawn Avenue and Fulton Avenue in which a male was killed. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted minutes ago.

According to police radio transmissions, the victim was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center after being shot and was pronounced dead a short time later.

At 10:13 a.m. on Monday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez provided new information.

Just after 5:30 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 116 Martin Luther King Drive.

Responding officers found a 17-year-old male victim – later identified as Zaimier Bell – who had sustained gunshot wound(s) to the upper body and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
