“Mike DeFusco has proven himself to be a progressive and dedicated public servant who goes out of his way to engage with the community to get things done,” Gusciora said in a statement.

“His vision and determination make him an ideal choice for Mayor of Hoboken for all of its residents.”

The endorsement should come as little surprise to anyone who attended DeFusco’s June 14th fundraiser at McSwiggan’s Pub, where Gusciora made an appearance and was quite chummy with the upstart councilman at the event.

“I’m extremely proud to have the endorsement of Assemblyman Reed Gusciora as I run for Mayor of Hoboken, as I did when I ran for council in 2015,” DeFusco added.

“His stand this weekend against Governor Christie’s closed-door sessions in the face of the state government shutdown is just the latest page in his long record of standing up for transparency and civil rights. His brand of leadership is one we should all aspire to, and I thank him deeply for his support and his guidance.”

Gusciora, who also recently helped fundraise for Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, backed Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32) in his standoff with Gov. Chris Christie (R) over a new budget and Horizon bill.

  1. Who really cares if some out of town politician endorses this guy? DeFusco is a typical phony politician who will do or say anything to get a vote. In this article he pretends to be a Progressive while he has already announced his first Council-at-large pick and he picked a Trump supporter/donor! As evidenced by his complete lack of conviction, DeFusco will do whatever it takes to benefit himself and will totally disregard the needs of the community.

  2. You guys are joking, right??

DeFusco is a gay man who I worked with in 2008 to elect Obama. His sincerity and belief in Hoboken and the fact that he’s assembling a team of people that want to bring ideas and vision to Hoboken is exactly what we need. He’s the most progressive and heartfelt guy out there.

    Shame on you.

    • Matt,

Are you denying that Defusco HIMSELF made an issue of being affiliated with republicans? He did.

Are you denying that his FIRST choice for council is a tea-party republican and donator to the Trump campaign? He is.

Just trying to understand which fact you are incorrectly denying.
