After backing Jersey City Councilman-at-Large Danny Rivera for re-election the December 2nd runoff, Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2) is throwing his weight behind former Council President Rolando Lavarro and Mamta Singh at-large.

“Rolando has always stood up for working families and accountable government and has never shied away from tough fights when the community needed him. Mamta has dedicated her life to empowering women, children, and families and brings compassion and new energy needed in the City Council,” O’Dea said in a statement.
“I’m endorsing them because Jersey City needs council members who will make Jersey City affordable, put working families first, and advocate for an inclusive and stronger Jersey City. I believe they will deliver.”
The veteran commissioner and former Ward B councilman, who came in third place for mayor and wasted little time in supporting Ward E Councilman James Solomon against Jim McGreevey, had Rivera as a running mate in that race.
Now heading to the December 2nd runoffs, O’Dea re-upped his endorsement last week, even though Rivera is now running with McGreevey alongside Meredith Burns, as HCV first reported.
Lavarro and Singh are running with Solomon at-large, as is Michael Griffin. The other runoff candidate is Tina Nalls, who was part of Mussab Ali’s ticket.
“I am deeply honored to receive Commissioner O’Dea’s endorsement, and grateful for his friendship and long record of leadership in our city. His character and commitment to working families set a standard I strive to uphold. We will work every day to deliver results that matter for every neighborhood in Jersey City,” noted Lavarro.
“I’m incredibly thankful for Commissioner O’Dea’s endorsement. His decades of service show that real progress comes from putting people first. I’m proud to stand alongside both him and Rolando in our shared commitment to a Jersey City where all families — new immigrants, new and long-time residents, working households — can thrive,” added Singh.
