After a full week of tallying votes, West New York voters are still waiting on the official results of their local board of education race, where the third place winner appears to still be up for grabs.

According to Hudson County Supervisor of Elections Hilda Rosario, the vote by mail and provisional ballots have still not been certified as of yesterday, adding that she could not provide a time frame as to when this task would be completed.
Ron Scheurle, an outspoken critic of the Mayor Felix Roque administration, stunned the mayor-supported Children First slate by finishing in first place at the polls with 2,578 votes.
David Morel, who was appointed to the board in May, came in a close second with 2,428 votes and according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, these two trustees will remain on the board regardless of what the VBM and provisional ballots say.
However, the third and final three-year term on the board is coming down to a photo finish as Jose Alcantara (2,363), Alex Navas (2,362), one of Scheurle’s running mates on the Save Our Schools slate and Board President Adam Parkinson (2,350) all finished within just 13 votes of one another on the voting machines.
Both sides have claimed Parkinson and Navas have gained a slight advantage after the vote by mails were counted, but no official tallies have been released yet aside from the poll numbers.
Sources added that they expect to have the final results in by Friday, but there is no guarantee this election won’t spill into next week.
