After 66 deaths, North Bergen nursing homes to have full COVID-19 testing, Sacco says

After 66 deaths at North Bergen long-term care facilities, they will receive complete COVID-19 testing, Mayor Nick Sacco said this evening.

“We would like to thank North Hudson Community Action Corporation for partnering with us to provide testing kits for our Long Term Care facilities,” Sacco, also the state senator of the 32nd Legislative District, said in a statement.

“Those facilities have been hit the hardest in our town by COVID-19. The tests will provide us with a better picture of how widespread the disease is and we can then work closely with the management to determine the best course of action to protect the workers and patients alike at these facilities.”

According to the latest information released by the New Jersey Department of Health, North Bergen has a total of 1,709 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 110 deaths: 66 of those which occurred in township’s three long term care facilities – HudsonView, Hudson Hills and the Harborage.

The NJ DOH began releasing this data on Monday, which indicated at the time that there are 93 coronavirus cases and 25 deaths at the HudsonView Center for Rehab and Healthcare, 147 cases and 20 deaths at the Harborage, and 11 cases at Hudson Hills.

In a letter to families and friends of patients yesterday, HudsonView said that despite the COVID-19 “chaos,” they are optimistic better days are ahead.
