Five elected officials from West New York: three commissioners, an assemblywoman and their freeholder, have joined the coalition that supports the re-election of Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise.Â

“As our County Executive, Tom DeGise has been a true partner and friend to the residents of West New York and there is no one we would rather support for another term,” Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-32) said in a statement.
“Tom is a progressive, effective leader and his administration has championed the issues and services that matter most, like making investments in public education, open space, transportation and everything our county needs.”
Joining Jimenez, a legislative running mate of state Senator (D-32)/North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco, in the endorsement are Commissioner Cosmo Cirillo, Gabriel Rodriguez and Margarita Guzman, as well as Freeholder Caridad Rodriguez (D-7).
Sacco, who is also close with Cirillo, along with U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8), who has previously had both Rodriguezs (no relation) work in his office, are leading the charge among those who want DeGise to serve through 2023.
“As County Executive I have always made it my mission to represent the interests of all 12 municipalities that make up our county, and I am so proud to see the leaders of West New York recognize that commitment and come together to support our campaign,” DeGise said in a statement.
“The outpouring of support we have received from all over Hudson County speaks volumes and I look forward to announcing additional supporters soon.”
DeGise is likely staring down an off the line campaign in June 2019, after Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and state Senator (D-33)/Union City Mayor Brian Stack announced they will not be supporting his candidacy and have been building their own faction to back a yet to be named opponent.
Adding further intrigue to the race is the fact that West New York Mayor Felix Roque has already announced he is with Fulop and Stack, while Commissioner Susan Colacurcio has not declared a side yet.
