3 parents arrested, 1 with taser and 1 with handgun, in Jersey City; school lockdowns lifted

Three parents were arrested after a tense altercation this morning where one woman was allegedly caught with a taser and a man flashed a handgun, an official said.

This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., Jersey City police officers responded to 111 Bright St., Frank R. Conwell Public School No. 3, on a call of a fight, said city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.

Two woman were arrested for simple assault, one of whom allegedly deployed a taser. Police were also informed that a father allegedly showed a handgun, but he was gone by the time police responded to the scene.

Upon further investigation, police located the man in Hoboken and arrested him on six different charges: causing or risking widespread injury or damage, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of children, and possessing a firearm on at an educational institutional.

No serious injuries were reported and the investigation is still active, Wallace-Scalcione added, further stating that the JCPD will maintain an increased police presence on site as a precaution until further notice.

Additionally, the lockdowns for P.S. 3 and Frank R. Conwell Middle School No. 4 have been lifted.

She also noted that the pedigree information of the three parents arrested were not immediately available.

School officials did not immediately return inquiries seeking comment on Monday morning.
