17 new Bayonne firefighters took the oath of office at a recent City Hall ceremony where friends, family, and elected officials were on hand.

The new firefighters are Sean Brow, Vincent Crawford, Moataz Elnaggar, Patrick Jarczewski, Matthew Blanchard, Evan Smith, Brandon Russo, Jeremy Ives, Jacob Lucarelli, James Marnell, James Tyminski, Jan Skora, James Ryan, David Folger, Nicholas Pivano, Jayro Navedo Mercedes, and Conor Farley.
City Clerk Madelene Medina administered the oath of office to the new firefighters before a large crowd in the Council Chambers.
Addressing the new firefighters, Mayor Jimmy Davis urged them to “learn every single day.” He assured them that they have joined “the best” fire department. Saying “you represent the City of Bayonne,” Mayor Davis reminded the new recruits to “respect the uniform.”
Public Safety Director Robert Kubert congratulated the new firefighters and their families. He reminded the new group that the public would be depending on them.
Additionally, Fire Chief Keith Weaver said that, since 2014, the City of Bayonne has hired “well over” 100 new recruits to replace several rounds of retired firefighters.
He told the new firefighters that they have “the best job in the world,” and promised them that “there are many achievements that lie ahead.”
Following the main part of the ceremony, Weaver announced that the new class of firefighters was being dedicated to Kubert.
Weaver described Kubert as “fair, firm, frank, and compassionate,” and as a man of “wisdom and knowledge.” From there, the chief presented Kubert with a white fire helmet, a firefighter shirt, a framed order, and a plaque declaring the dedication.
