A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot in Jersey City late last night, an incident where county and local authorities are investigating.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit & the JCPD are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred last night just after 10:30 pm in which a 16-year-old boy was shot inside the vestibule of a building on Bergen Ave near Dwight St in Jersey City. More info to follow,” the HCPO tweeted early this morning.
At 11:10 a.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez provided new information.
Last night just after 10:30 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 83 Bergen Ave., Suarez said in a statement.
Responding officers found a 16-year-old male victim – later identified as Kaheem Taylor – who had sustained gunshot wound(s) to the upper body and was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
