A 14-year-old Jersey City student was arrested this morning for bringing a gun to his grammar school on career day, officials said.Â

A gun was found in a student’s book bag this morning at Public School No. 38, also known as the James F. Murray school, in Jersey City after a parent informed the school of the concern, district spokeswoman Maryann Dickar said in a statement.
The district identified the student as an 8th grader, who was immediately arrested and taken into custody by Jersey City police.
The incident did not disrupt the school’s regularly scheduled activities, which included career day, and was dismissed at 12:45 p.m. as originally scheduled, officials said.
The increased presence from police and fire departments were as a result of career day, not the student who was arrested, according to the school district.
“Franklin Walker, who is carrying out the day to day duties of the Chief School Administrator called me at 10:49 a.m. to update me about the retrieval of a loaded gun in the school and the details surrounding this incident. Mr. Walker is in charge of the situation,†School Board President Sudhan Thomas said in a statement.
“We are committed to safety and school staff responded instantly when a concern was raised. We thank those who informed the school of what they had heard so that it could be addressed with as little disruption to the school day.”
What happen to the kid? Did anyone contact the parent. Was the gun loaded? Was it real? Lots of questions. Not much of a story without the answers.
The student was arrested, as noted. If a minor is arrested, it’s standard procedure for the authorities to contact the parents. The gun was real, can’t say for sure if it was loaded or not.
