West New York Mayor Felix Roque addressed the crowd on hand before Zimmer took the podium.

Zimmer, the only female mayor in Hudson County – who said she was a stay-at-home mom before she got involved in politics – urged the young women in the room to get involved with their communities and to seriously consider if running for office is for them.

Quigley, the current President and CEO of the North Hudson Community Action Corporation, spoke about the abuses women still endure worldwide, and later spoke about how more woman are getting elected to office in Hudson County.

Tania Fuentes, the pastor of Love of Jesus Family Church in West New York, and former town board of education trustee Nasrin Alam were also recognized at the event.

The event concluded with Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez (D-32) receiving a surprise proclamation, and Memorial High School teacher Susan Colacurcio, also running for commissioner on Roque’s re-election ticket, receiving a video tribute.
