While it is not a monumental surprise, the West New York Democratic Committee has formally endorsed the Children First Board of Education slate, consisting of Jose Mendoza, Maite Fernandez and Damarys Gonzalez.

“The West New York Democratic Committee is proud to stand behind these candidates, and we hope that all residents in West New York will join us in voting for these leaders on Election Day,” said WNYDC Chairman Joseph Roque, the oldest son of West New York Mayor Felix Roque.

The WNYDC also endorsed the Column A team of Phil Murphy for governor, Nick Sacco for state Senate, Vincent Prieto and Angelica Jimenez for Assembly, E. Junior Maldonado for county clerk and Caridad Rodriguez for freeholder.

“Endorsing the Children First Team was an obvious choice.”

The establishment BOE slate will again face a challenge from the Save Our Schools team, who managed to pick up a seat in last year’s election.

Board of Education Trustees Adam Parkinson, the board president, and Jonathan Castaneda, who is also the mayor’s chief of staff, are expected to be two of the driving forces behind the Children First team this year.

Parkinson and Castaneda were both previously elected under the Children First banner.

“During the Trump/Christie era, it is important to not be fooled into voting for candidates who do not support our community and who claim to represent our party,” added Parkinson, the WNYDC secretary.

“As proud Democrats, it’s important to vote for the individuals who will stand up and fight for what we, the people, believe in.”

Ahead of the November 7th election, the WNYDC is registering voters at their headquarters, located 5301 Palisade Avenue in West New York, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
