Hoboken Council President Jen Giattino will be announcing her entry into the mayor’s contest tomorrow evening, sources told Hudson County View. Jen Giattino

Giattino’s announcement will come hours after Freeholder Anthony Romano (D-5) enters the mayor’s contest: which has quickly become a rat race ever since incumbent Dawn Zimmer announced she would not be seeking re-election on Tuesday.

While Zimmer immediately threw her support behind Councilman-at-Large Ravi Bhalla, that clearly didn’t sit will with Giattino, as well as Council colleagues Tiffanie Fisher and Peter Cunningham – who announced over the weekend they were open to Giattino’s candidacy.

That has since led to some infighting among Zimmer allies on the local Democratic party (Giattino is a Republican), of which Fisher is the recently elected chairwoman.

Giattino did not immediately return a call seeking comment, but revealed in a press release that she will be making an announcement regarding the November 7th mayoral contest tomorrow night.

Already in the race are Bhalla, 1st Ward Councilman Mike DeFusco, business owner Karen Nason and activist Ronald Bautista.
