Sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, said a man was found hanging from tree early Saturday morning.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the man committed suicide, but further details were scarce as law enforcement officials were still in the process of identifying the individual and notifying his next of kin as of yesterday evening, sources said.

Phil Swibinski, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said little other than that the matter was being looked into by authorities.

“The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the situation in conjunction with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and we have no other comment at this time,” he said in an email.

A spokesman for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office did not return an email seeking comment.
