Jennifer Towle died in the jail’s medical facility around 2 a.m. on Friday, sources said.

She was also serving a six-month prison sentence due to a criminal conviction out of Weehawken Municipal Court, they added.

The sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the matter, further stated that the woman’s body was immediately transferred to the state Medical Examiner’s Office and no other information was currently available.

The death comes within 48 hours after local activists challenged the Board of Chosen Freeholders to take firm action regarding the investigation of a man who died inside the jail last month after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Jersey City Freeholder Bill O’Dea (D-2) said that the public safety committee will be holding a committee meeting tomorrow at 4 p.m., but declined to comment further.

Multiple other county officials declined to comment while a county spokesman did not return an email seeking comment this morning.
