Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) signed three bills into law these morning to stymie actions from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), including one banning law enforcement members from wearing masks.

“These bills underscore that here in New Jersey, we still follow the Constitution and uphold the rule of law. My focus as governor remains on keeping the public safe. As we’ve seen across the country, Donald Trump’s untrained, unaccountable, masked ICE agents are putting people in danger,” Sherrill said in a statement.

“That’s why in New Jersey, we are protecting our communities – strengthening our protections, banning ICE agents from wearing masks, and protecting residents’ privacy from federal overreach.”

She signed the “Strengthening Trust Between Law Enforcement and Immigrant Communities (A-4071/S-352),” which codifies the state Attorney General’s Office’s Immigrant Trust Act.

This essentially prohibits law enforcement officers from engaging in racially-influenced policing.

3-216/A-1743 requires law enforcement officer to reveal facial identity during certain public interactions and to present sufficient identification prior to arresting or detaining person.

Finally, the “Privacy Protection Act (A-4070/S-3522),” relating the collection and sharing of personal information, was signed into law at today’s press conference in Newark.

Currently, a government entity can sell, share, or transfer automated license plate recognition information to a law enforcement agency of another jurisdiction for the purpose of a criminal investigation, provided that the law enforcement agency certifies to abide by certain terms regarding the information’s use.

Under this bill, if a law enforcement agency violates the terms of the information-sharing agreement, it may be prohibited from receiving additional information or denied access to the government entity.

State Senator Raj Mukherji (D-32) was a co-sponsor for the first two bills and he was present at today’s event.

“These bills advance public safety at a time when the federal government is acting lawlessly, sowing division, and inciting chaos. When victims and witnesses are afraid to come forward, violent offenders remain on the streets,” he said in a statement.

“This legislation strengthens and maintains trust between our diverse communities and state and local law enforcement, and it allows police to do their jobs — focusing on real public safety threats, preventing violence, and solving crime — while ensuring taxpayer resources are not misused to enforce federal civil immigration violations at a time when ICE has repeatedly disregarded due process and civil rights across the country.”

The Hudson County Board of Commissioners have approved resolutions supporting all three of these bills, as well as the “F*** ICE” bill (A-4446/S-3711) sponsored by Mukherji in the upper chamber and Assembly members Ravi Bhalla and Katie Brennan (D-32).

In both cases, that bill has only been introduced and no further action has been taken yet.

Last week, Sherrill and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport joined with Roxbury Township to sue the federal government and stop a proposed ICE detention facility at a warehouse that would overwhelm community resources.

And in February, Sherrill signed Executive Order No. 12 to ban ICE from utilizing state property, which is now being challenged in court by the U.S. Department of Justice.

  1. Protect illegal alien criminals and give the ultra Leftists every means to target federal law enforcement and their families with violence and death.

But of course, insider trader Sherrill is showing her true colors.

  2. Right on….This “governor” would sell her family down the river, let alone sacrifice the safety of NJ citizens to accrue and maintain power. Shame on her…..
